About the Box League
For summer 2026, St Chad’s is running a mixed (combined men’s and ladies’) singles box league, open to all members at all ability levels. This is a great way to meet other players at the club and get some competitive, but fun, match play against players of a similar level.
The box league places each participant in a small group, usually of 4 players. Group members then arrange to play each other over a period of 5 weeks. At the end of that round the top player is promoted and the bottom player demoted. There are 4 rounds over the summer and players can join or drop out of each round, as they choose.
Format and Rules
The box league consists of 4 rounds, each lasting 5 weeks, between April and September:
- Round 1: -13th April – 17/th May
- Round 2 – 18th May – 21st June
- Round 3 – 29th June – 2nd Aug.
- Round 4 – 3rd Aug. – 6th Sept.
Each round will consist of groups of around 4 players. Matches are played in a round robin format, where each player plays every other player in their group once during the round. So you need to play just 3 matches in 5 weeks. Participants are responsible for arranging when and where they play their matches.
For Round 1, players will be roughly seeded into initial groups by the club coach. For subsequent rounds, the top player in each group will be promoted and the bottom player demoted for the next round.
Matches will be played as 3 sets with the final set played as a tie break at 1 set all. (There is no option to play 3 full sets, unlike last year’s ladder competition).
Entry
Entry is free and open to current St Chad’s members whose membership remains valid throughout any round they enter.
Players can choose to join or drop out at the end/start of each round. Entry to each round closes 2 days before that round is due to start. Entrants to the current round will receive a invitation to join the next round a couple of weeks before its start date. Players joining after Round 1 will start in the bottom group, unless there are drop-outs that allow them to be more appropriately seeded.

Playing Matches and Submitting Results
You need to arrange and play your group matches before each round ends. Out of courtesy to other players in your group, you should make every effort to organise your matches early and allow some contingency for poor weather.
Players are expected to provide their own balls, which should be of good quality for competitive play.
You must submit your own results on the LTA competitions website, following the links provided in email on entry. Please do not ask organisers to submit results for you. Your results should count towards your LTA WTN ranking!
