We’ve worked hard to make sure that our club is ready to return back to some tennis playing in as safe and responsible way as possible. Please see our latest Guidelines which we are updating regularly in the light of advice from the LTA.
Some of you will remember having received an invitation to complete a survey with regards to Safeguarding at our tennis club. Jill Ingle, our club Welfare Officer, has been very busy filling out forms and having meetings with the LTA who have been assessing the club. They have recently sent us the LTA Safeguarding report and informed us that our club has been graded Green – Minimum Standards Achieved which is excellent news.
Thank you to all who completed the survey – here’s the link to it if you’d like to see what the responses were:
We hope that all of our members enjoy playing at St Chad’s, and feel that it is a safe and nurturing environment to be. If you have any concerns about any aspects of your or other members’ wellbeing at any time then please let us know, by emailing Jill.

Yesterday’s weather was kind as the day for the annual Karen Wignall Ladies Doubles Tournament and the Mens Tournament dawned. Played to the American Mixed format, everyone who attended played lots of tennis with lots of different partners which always makes for a fun and sociable competition.
The winners of the 2019 tournaments were:
Congratulations to the winners and thanks to all who came along, making it another successful and fun tournament day. We raised a whopping £97.25 for St Gemma’s Hospice so that was the icing on the cake (which Karen would appreciate).
Here are some photos (thanks Justin) of this year’s American Mixed fun social tournament which we held at the beginning of May … enhanced as ever by Sophie’s chocolate brownies, the winners were Heather Davies and Tom Wignall. We’ll be having another tournament later on in the year, watch this space.
A fantastic doubles tournament took place on a hot sunny Sunday on the 24th of June. Five pairs each played four 20 minute matches, with the winners being undefeated with the vital final match ending in a 3 -3 draw. Well done to Anne Wallace and new member Nick Davis on winning this month’s tournament.
July 29th 11am -1pm will see the next tournament at the club. A maximum of 12 people per tournament on a first come basis. A reminder will be sent through nearer the time.
This year’s American Mixed tournament, one of the most popular fixtures on St Chad’s Tennis Club’s calendar, was played on a beautiful day, with 2 hours of matches in hot sunshine followed by melting chocolate cake and strawberries. There were some closely fought and very even games, with Richard Brown and Margy Graham coming out as the individual winners. Congratulations to both if them.
